Pool Table Removal Melbourne: 2026 Costs, Slate & Who Levels It

By Move Near Me team ·

Short answer: Pool table removal in Melbourne with Move Near Me costs hourly labour ($105/hour for two removalists and a 4.5 t truck on weekdays, minimum 2 hours plus a 30-minute call-out), a $150 pool table fee and any access fees, all ex GST. A pool table technician usually dismantles and re-levels a slate table; we don’t level pool tables.

How much does it cost to move a pool table in Melbourne?

Moving a pool table with Move Near Me costs the hourly labour for the crew and truck, plus a $150 pool table fee, plus any stairs, long carry, lift or parking fees. The $150 is a fee for moving the table, charged on top of the labour; it isn’t the price of the move.

Time is billed from crew arrival at the first address until the last item is unloaded, plus a fixed 30-minute call-out. The minimum is 2 hours plus the call-out, then 15-minute blocks.

Cost line Amount (ex GST)
Team rate: 2 removalists + 4.5 t truck $105/hour

All prices are AUD and exclude GST. The full rate card is on our pricing page, and our guide to removalist costs in Melbourne has more worked examples.

Pool table moving cost in Melbourne: two worked examples

A table-only move on a weekday with no stairs starts at $412.50 + GST (example A). Example B shows a pool table moved as part of a 3-bedroom house on a Saturday.

Worked example A: pool table only, Glen Waverley to Mount Waverley

A slate table, already dismantled by a technician, moving from Glen Waverley to Mount Waverley on a Wednesday. Our quote form estimates 2.5–3.25 billable hours including the call-out, with two movers and a 4.5 t truck.

Item Calculation Low High
Crew and truck (incl. call-out) 2.5–3.25 hrs × $105 $262.50 $341.25
Pool table fee 1 × $150 $150.00 $150.00
Subtotal (ex GST) $412.50 $491.25
Total inc GST $453.75 $540.38

If the table goes up one flight of stairs at the Mount Waverley end, add $30. Our quote form then estimates $442.50–$521.25 + GST ($486.75–$573.38 inc GST).

Worked example B: 3-bedroom house with a pool table, Doncaster to Templestowe

A 3-bedroom Doncaster house with the table in an upstairs rumpus room (one flight), moving to Templestowe on a Saturday. Our quote form recommends three removalists and an 8 t truck and estimates 4.5–6 billable hours including the call-out. The Saturday team rate is $180/hour.

Item Calculation Low High
Crew and truck (incl. call-out) 4.5–6 hrs × $180 $810.00 $1,080.00
Stairs at pickup 1 × $30 $30.00 $30.00
Pool table fee 1 × $150 $150.00 $150.00
Subtotal (ex GST) $990.00 $1,260.00
Total inc GST $1,089.00 $1,386.00

The same move on a weekday is $170/hour, and our quote form estimates $945–$1,200 + GST. That’s $45–$60 less than the Saturday estimate.

Neither example includes the technician. Their charge for dismantling and re-levelling is separate, so ask them for a quote.

Do you have to take a pool table apart to move it?

Usually, yes: a slate pool table needs to be taken apart before it’s moved. Many lighter, non-slate tables (MDF or composite beds) can be moved in one piece, but it depends on the table and the route.

  • Three-piece slate: the common home type. A technician removes the rails, pockets and felt, then unscrews the slate pieces so each can be carried separately
  • One-piece slate: one large, rigid slab. Check the route carefully and ask a technician how they’d handle it
  • Non-slate: lighter; some fold or have removable legs. Check the manufacturer’s instructions

Why not carry a slate table assembled? Slate is heavy and brittle, and the frame isn’t built to carry it tilted. Lifting by the rails can pull them loose, and flexing the frame can crack the slate.

Tell us the table’s size and whether it’s slate when you book.

Who dismantles, moves and levels a pool table?

A pool table technician dismantles the table and puts it back together, the removalist carries and transports it, and you organise the bookings. We don’t dismantle slate tables, re-felt them, reassemble them or level them.

Task Owner Pool table technician Removalist (us)
Book the technician at both ends Yes
Remove balls, cues, cue rack and covers Yes
Remove rails, pockets and felt Yes
Unscrew the slate from the frame Yes

Pad, carry and load the slate and frame Yes
Transport to the new address Yes
Carry the parts into the room you choose Yes
Reassemble the frame and slate Yes
Level the table Yes
Re-felt or re-cushion if needed Yes

Our $25 disassembly fee is for standard furniture such as beds, desks and wardrobes. It doesn’t cover dismantling a slate pool table. For more on standard furniture, see our guide to furniture disassembly and reassembly.

Who levels a pool table after moving?

The pool table technician levels it once the slate is back on the frame. Move Near Me’s terms say we don’t level pool tables after the move, so book the technician for the new address before moving day.

Can you move a pool table upstairs or into an apartment?

Yes, a dismantled pool table can usually go upstairs or into an apartment, as long as the slate pieces and frame fit through every door, stairwell and lift on the way. Move Near Me charges $30 per flight of stairs at each address, on top of the labour.

Measure the route before booking:

  • Doorways and hallways: width and height, and any tight turns
  • Stairs: width, the turn at the top and bottom, and the ceiling height above the stairs
  • Lift: door width, car depth and height
  • Truck to door: more than 25 m adds a $30 long carry fee

For apartments, check your owners corporation’s rules on moving and common areas and ask the building manager about moving bulky furniture through common areas, lift bookings and move times. If the lift has to be booked, padded or keyed, our lift booking fee is $20 per address. Our guide to moving a Melbourne apartment covers lifts, loading docks and parking, or see our apartment removals Melbourne service.

Can removalists move a slate pool table without cracking it?

Yes, once a technician has dismantled it. The slate then needs to be padded, carried by enough people and strapped so it can’t shift in the truck. The main risks are carrying it assembled, dropping it or flexing it on stairs.

Transit insurance for the value of your goods isn’t included in our rates. Tick the insurance box in the quote form for a quote, or check whether your contents policy covers goods in transit. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law still apply. Our guide to protecting furniture when moving covers padding and what to do if something is damaged.

Pool table removal in Melbourne: moving day checklist

Tell us about the pool table when you book: our terms ask for advance notice of pool tables, pianos and other heavy items. Then work through this list.

  • Book the technician at both ends: dismantling before the crew arrives, and reassembly and levelling after
  • Line up the times: if the crew arrives while the table is still being dismantled, waiting time is billed
  • Pack balls and cues separately, and bag and label screws and pocket parts
  • Clear the route from the games room to the truck at both addresses
  • Protect floors along the route, especially polished timber and tiles
  • Decide where the table goes in the new home before the crew arrives, leaving room for cues on every side
  • Check parking and lift bookings at both ends

Is it worth moving a pool table, or should you sell it?

It’s usually worth moving a good slate table you’ll use, if it fits the new room. Selling may make more sense if the new home has no room with enough space around the table for cueing.

Weigh up the space (table plus cue room on all sides), the felt’s condition (re-felting is easiest while it’s apart), the total cost (our labour and fee plus the technician at both ends) and what a similar table would cost to replace.
